Kit. was conceived from a deeply personal experience of our founder, Alyx Waterman. Taking a break from her software development career to support her family while her younger brother was deployed with the Marine Corps, she took on the role of labor coach for her sister-in-law, an ordeal that stretched from an early Tuesday morning to a late Friday night. Those intense days of labor highlighted not only the profound beauty of childbirth but also the systemic inefficiencies plaguing the path to parenthood.

As a queer woman who has dreamed of parenthood since childhood, Alyx knew her path would diverge from the traditional. Yet, she was surprised by the universal complications and outdated practices that all prospective parents face. The evident need for a more nuanced approach to family planning and the absence of support for diverse family structures ignited the inspiration for Kit.

Kit. is more than an app; it’s a movement towards empathetic, inclusive, and supportive birthing experiences. Envisioning a world where every family starts their parenting journey empowered, informed, and supported by a community that genuinely understands them, and the tool-Kits they need.
